Startups are increasingly choosing coworking
The number of coworking spaces has nearly doubled every year since 2006. It is expected that by 2018 there will be more than 37,000 coworking spaces worldwide.
Many companies, especially startups, often choose these environments that are usually cost-saving. According to international research by Regus, a globally active provider of flexible workspaces, the opportunity to meet professionals from other companies and the networking opportunities for Dutch professionals are important reasons for choosing to share office space. It is even more important than the lower costs.
Lower costs
Thanks to coworking, smaller companies, such as startups, can open a location and freelancers can benefit from all the advantages of a large office, without the costs that normally come with it. However, some find coworking spaces too casual for important meetings or when privacy is desired.
There are also disadvantages to coworking
More than three-quarters (76 percent) of respondents indicate that coworking spaces are sometimes not professional enough to host clients. Additionally, 74 percent of Dutch professionals also feel that there can be too little privacy or that it is difficult to concentrate (61 percent). Having separate professional spaces is therefore important to work efficiently from a coworking space.
There is another disadvantage: although coworking is ideal for innovation and startups, nearly half (49 percent) of Dutch professionals believe that there is too little meeting space at some coworking locations.
