New player puts pressure on the market
The European car market is gaining a serious player. Geely Benelux officially makes its entrance with two electrified SUVs: the fully electric Geely E5 and the plug-in hybrid Starray EM-i.
With sharp prices, a strong focus on daily use, and a rapidly growing service network, the brand is immediately focusing on scale and accessibility. This introduction is therefore not only relevant for consumers but also for entrepreneurs and business drivers who want to make their mobility more sustainable without compromises.
Strategic choice for a mature EV market
The choice for the Benelux is anything but coincidental. The Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg are among the leaders in electrification, partly due to a strong charging infrastructure and incentive measures.
Geely positions itself here with the philosophy 'Made for Real Life'. Instead of futuristic concepts, the emphasis is on practical usability: cars must primarily function well in commuting, family use, and daily business trips. This makes the brand directly relevant for the business market, where reliability and ease of use weigh more heavily than innovation for the sake of innovation.

Two-pronged strategy for business mobility
With the introduction of both a fully electric SUV and a plug-in hybrid, Geely consciously chooses flexibility. While the Geely E5 focuses on completely emission-free driving, the Starray EM-i offers an intermediate solution for users who are not yet able or willing to fully switch.
This two-pronged strategy aligns well with the reality of many entrepreneurs, where charging infrastructure, driving profile, and costs still vary widely.
Geely E5: focused on daily use
The Geely E5 is clearly developed with practical use as a starting point. With a WLTP range of up to 475 kilometers and the ability to charge from 30 to 80 percent in about twenty minutes, the car is suitable for intensive daily use.
Interior space also plays an important role. The trunk space expands to 1,877 liters, and the interior offers remarkably many storage options. Combined with comfort features such as seat heating, ventilation, and massage, Geely is explicitly targeting the business driver who spends many hours in the car.
Starray EM-i: flexibility as the key
For entrepreneurs who are still dependent on longer trips or limited charging infrastructure, the Starray EM-i offers a pragmatic solution. With a combined driving range of up to 1055 kilometers and an electric range of 136 kilometers, a large part of the trips can still be made emission-free.
Additionally, Geely introduces features such as vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-vehicle. This allows the car to function as a power source for external devices — an application that is interesting for mobile workplaces or outdoor applications.

Technology that supports, not dominates
Underlying both models is the same technological foundation in the form of Geely's Global Intelligent Electric Architecture. This integrates drive, software, and user interface.
Notably, Geely does not foreground technology as a selling point but rather as a supporting factor. Systems such as the digital cockpit and smartphone integration are present but designed to seamlessly blend into the driving experience. This aligns with a broader trend where ease of use is becoming increasingly more decisive than pure innovative power.
Service level as a distinguishing factor
In addition to product and price, Geely is explicitly investing in accessibility. The brand aims to grow quickly into a network where customers need to drive a maximum of 25 minutes for service or maintenance.
Combined with a central distribution center in Amsterdam, this should ensure rapid parts availability and minimal downtime. For entrepreneurs, this is a crucial factor, as downtime directly impacts business operations.
Price puts pressure on the market
With a starting price of €37,990 for the E5 and €34,990 for the Starray EM-i, Geely positions itself sharply against established brands. This comes with extensive warranty conditions, including eight years of warranty on both vehicle and battery.
For business drivers and fleet owners, this makes the total costs more predictable. This combination of purchase price, warranty, and operating costs increasingly determines the choice in the business market.
What does this mean for entrepreneurs?
The arrival of Geely in the Benelux fits into a broader development where new players are shaking up the market with a combination of technology and price pressure.
For entrepreneurs, this concretely means more choice, a lower entry threshold for electrification, and increasing competition among providers. At the same time, established brands are forced to sharpen their offerings and pricing strategies further.
No cautious entry
With the introduction of the E5 and Starray EM-i, Geely makes it clear that it does not aspire to a niche position but wants to play a serious role in the Benelux.
For entrepreneurs looking to renew or make their fleet more sustainable, this creates a new alternative that can be both strategically and financially interesting. The first deliveries are scheduled for the second quarter of 2026 — and thus the real test begins: how quickly can Geely capture market share?
