Last-minute bookings in the wintry January month
According to Natuurhuisje, people in January mainly choose short stays close to home, which are booked just before departure. The increase in last-minute bookings indicates that many Dutch people are actively making space to recover after a busy December. The wintry scenes with low temperatures and snowfall may also play a role in the rising bookings for nature houses in January. The number of ultra-last minutes with departure in the same week increased by 14% this week.

Women feel the holidays the strongest
It is striking that women score higher than men in all examined areas. For example, 41% of women say they feel overstimulated after the holidays, compared to 28% of men. The need for peace (62% vs. 50%) and silence (54% vs. 46%) is also clearly higher among women. On average, 35% of the Dutch people feel overstimulated after the holidays.

More often alone on the road
Booking figures for 2025 from Natuurhuisje also show that people are increasingly seeking nature alone. The number of bookings for one person increased by 11% compared to last year, peaking at 17% in the autumn. This aligns with the broader trend
'Rest & Recover' as described in the NBTC trend report for 2026. During their free time, Dutch people are increasingly looking for places and experiences to slow down, unwind, and recharge mentally. Natuurhuisje expects that the need for silence and peace will further stimulate the demand for solo stays in 2026.
