(Maurice Steenbergen, 2025)

Where the film could only show snippets of his in-depth encounters with the architects of electronic music, this book provides a complete picture of the interviews that formed the basis of that project. Steenbergen, who made history in the gabber scene as the producer of the world hit 'Poing', brings the reader face to face with the pioneers who unleashed a musical revolution.

"In that 92-minute documentary, I could only show snippets of the in-depth conversations I had," Steenbergen explains. "Some stories were left on the cutting room floor, others made it into the film but didn't get the space they deserved. This book finally gives those stories the full attention they deserve."

The 33 interviews take readers through the diverse rooms of electronic music history: from Moby's humble studio in the Hollywood Hills where he philosophizes about the pure joy of musical discovery, to the street corners of Compton where Frankie Bones explains the PLUR philosophy that would define the rave scene. Ya Kid K takes us behind the scenes of the world hit 'Pump Up The Jam' and reveals how the music industry treated artists. Paul Elstak describes the revolutionary energy of Rotterdam Records and the rise of the Dutch gabber scene in detail.

A special chapter features the never-before-published correspondence with Michael Alig, the controversial 'King of the Club Kids'. Written from his prison cell in 2010, these letters offer a rare intimate glimpse into his current life and the New York club scene of the 90s. This correspondence, now published for the first time after his death in 2020, forms a unique time document that further enriches the history of the scene.
