A collaboration that goes beyond gaming - Handheld gaming device

The new ROG Xbox Ally series is more than just a gaming console. ASUS and Xbox have designed a handheld in a strategic partnership that combines the power of Windows with the recognizable Xbox experience. The result: a hybrid device that functions equally well as an entertainment hub, creative tool, or powerful gaming console — fully portable.

According to Shawn Yen, Head of Consumer Product at ASUS, the collaboration was essential:

"We wanted to take our handheld to the next level, but we couldn't do it alone. Thanks to this revolutionary collaboration with Microsoft, we were able to create a completely new device with the power of ROG and the soul of Xbox."

Comfort and design: game on, all day

What stands out immediately about the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X is the revamped design. The handheld has been redesigned from the ground up, with ergonomics and long-lasting comfort as the starting point. The palm rests and textured grip are inspired by popular Xbox controllers, providing a solid and familiar feel.

The Ally X model adds impulse triggers — a subtle yet effective feature that further refines haptic feedback. The result? More immersion, more control, less fatigue. Ideal for longer sessions, whether gaming or working on the go.

Seamlessly switch between gaming and work

Thanks to Windows 11, the ROG Xbox Ally series not only runs games but also all regular Windows apps. Through the fullscreen Xbox interface, you intuitively start in game mode, but you can just as easily switch to your business tools or creative software with the push of a button.

For users who are often on the go — or hybrid working — this flexibility is worth its weight in gold. Roanne Sones, CVP at Xbox, emphasizes:

"We wanted to create an authentic Xbox experience in a handheld form factor. With ROG, we succeeded."

The controls via joystick and buttons are seamlessly integrated into the custom interface. The Game Bar provides quick access to settings, widgets, and system functions. At the same time, you retain full freedom to run other apps, mods, and games.

Performance you can take anywhere

Handheld gaming device: Under the hood lies serious power. The ROG Xbox Ally is powered by the AMD Ryzen™ Z2 A Processor — energy-efficient, yet with enough power for AAA games. The Ally X takes it a step further: with the new AMD Ryzen™ AI Z2 Extreme Processor, this model delivers higher framerates, smoother graphics, and AI-optimized performance.

The battery also gets an upgrade. While the standard model already features a 60Wh battery, the Ally X goes further thanks to optimizations in efficiency and chip design. This handheld is ready for long sessions — without compromising on performance.

Jack Huynh from AMD summed it up well:

"With the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X, we combine the best technologies from AMD, the design from ASUS, and the ecosystem from Xbox. So that gamers can play anywhere and anytime without compromises."

Future-proof with AI functionality

Both handheld gaming device models support AMD's latest software technologies, including FidelityFX™ Super Resolution (FSR), Radeon Super Resolution (RSR), and Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF). Additionally, the ROG Xbox Ally X includes an NPU (Neural Processing Unit), enabling future AI functionalities.

In short: these handhelds are not only made for now but also for what is to come.

Availability

The ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X will be available starting the holidays of 2025 in countries including the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, the UK, and the US. Further rollout will follow in other markets where ROG handhelds have already made their mark.
