Choosing a first phone is an exciting moment for many families. Parents want to be able to reach their child, but do not want to automatically give full access to the internet and apps. With Kids & Teens, parents can choose a subscription and device that fit their family and their child's digital development.

Parents determine how much data their child receives and always maintain control over usage. They can choose 0 GB, 2 GB, or 10 GB as a sim only or with a smartphone. The 0 GB subscription, in combination with a so-called starter phone (like the Nokia 3210), is intended for parents who want to be able to reach their children by phone, but do not want to give them access to mobile internet yet.

Safety without surprises

All Kids & Teens subscriptions include parental controls and smart blocks as standard. This prevents unexpected costs through blocks on premium numbers, purchases via the bill, extra bundles, and data usage outside the EU. Parents maintain control through a management account where they can adjust the settings, while the child has a protected user environment in the 'Vodafone & Ziggo app'. In this app, the child can see their own usage but cannot change the settings or activate extra services.

Help with media literacy

In addition to parental controls, Vodafone provides parents access to the Kids & Screens platform from the Vodafone Foundation. This is an online platform launched in March 2025 that helps parents and children navigate the digital world. It offers practical tips, expert advice, and information on topics such as screen time, safe smartphone use, and social media. This supports Vodafone in helping educators with media literacy and in having conversations about these topics.

'More and more parents indicate a need for a simple first phone for their child, without internet. Various societal discussions show how important it is for parents to make conscious choices and for children to grow up safely in the digital world step by step. Therefore, we now offer a 'starter phone' without internet. This allows parents to make informed choices and helps children become digitally skilled at their own pace,' says Ewout Kalkman, Director of Vodafone.

The three mobile subscriptions of Kids & Teens are available immediately for new and existing Vodafone customers. More information can be found at: https://www.vodafone.nl/abonnement/kids-and-teens
