Bagijn and Schaap have made a name for themselves over the past 25 years as entrepreneurs who successfully disrupted large financial markets. In 2000, they co-founded BinckBank, the online broker that took on the major banks with 90% lower fees and direct trading on the stock exchange. After 10 years, BinckBank was the market leader, and they started Brand New Day. The catalyst for this was the scandal surrounding high-risk insurance policies and their astonishment at the complete lack of competition in the supplementary pension market, which led to excessively high costs, poor products, and service. Now, 15 years later, Brand New Day is also a market leader, and they feel it is time to pass the baton.

Bagijn and Schaap will remain involved with Brand New Day as shareholders and, pending approval from De Nederlandsche Bank, will join the Supervisory Board.

The customer radically at 1

The disruption formula of Bagijn and Schaap is simple: always put the customer radically first. Therefore, both at BinckBank and Brand New Day, they entered the market with significantly lower costs than all competitors, thoughtful products, innovative online tools, and lightning-fast service. With their challenging advertising campaigns, they sharpened the market and built more and more brand awareness year after year. Bagijn and Schaap are the only entrepreneurs who have founded two different, independent banks - something they never envisioned beforehand.

The new CEO Gerjan de Lange is fully familiar with this strategy and approach. He has worked with Bagijn and Schaap at both BinckBank and Brand New Day and was responsible for commerce and ICT at Brand New Day, among other things.

Kalo Bagijn: 'A CEO of a large insurer - who sometimes wished he could shoot us for our ads - once told me that the market also needs disruptive players like Brand New Day to remain sharp and innovative. I am convinced of that. I am proud of what we have achieved in 15 years with Brand New Day and how the company stands now. I wish Gerjan and the entire team much success in further developing Brand New Day.'

Thierry Schaap: 'It took Brand New Day twice as long to become a market leader as it did with Binck. The market for supplementary pensions is also less dynamic and significantly larger. With 400,000 customers and more than €10 billion in entrusted assets, there is now a solid, profitable, and rapidly growing bank that we are very proud of with our close-knit team. It is now time for the old guard to make way for the new generation. Gerjan and his team will undoubtedly continue this beautifully. I wish them all the success!'┬á┬á

Gerjan de Lange: 'Kalo and Thierry are leaving, but I will certainly not just be minding the shop here. I have never done that in the past 20 years at Binck and Brand New Day either. I see great opportunities in expanding the services. And besides, AI certainly offers enormous opportunities, and I want to make quick strides with Brand New Day.'
